WHNA Landscaping Awards Nominations accepted July 1st – August 17th
WHNA Housing and Appearance is now accepting nominations for landscaping awards. As in recent years, one home in each of our nine areas, will receive an award.
As an urban neighborhood, one of our key advantages is walkability. When you walk, you cannot help but notice the appearance of your surroundings. Homes with attractive exteriors and yards enhance our image as a neighborhood. They also contribute to our real estate value retention. As your neighborhood association, we feel it is worthwhile to recognize homeowners and residents who make our neighborhood beautiful.
This is your opportunity to tell us which homes, including your own, that you find worthy of recognition.

Judging
The Committee recognizes that there are a myriad of possible personal preferences for landscape layout, design, and execution. However, we are confident in the principle that selected preferences must also be appropriate to our urban environment. Many different elements may be used including: trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, food produce varieties, lawns, fences, mulching, stone/masonry, and even water features. However, they should be executed in a manner mindful of our urban setting. To that end the committee will use the following to judge each landscape:
- Pleasing to look at
- Proportionate/scaled to the space available
- Well cared for (healthy plantings, few weeds)
