Other Events In the Community
April and November
Held twice a year (April and November), the Art Walk gives participants a chance to view and buy unique, original art from local artists and shops on Vliet St. and North Ave.
May – October
Every block that has a block party schedules it to accommodate their block. Check your door for a notice. If your block doesn’t usually have a block party, consider organizing one!
Bloom and Groom
Mid to late May
Establish in 2000, Bloom and Groom is an opportunity for our Washington Heights’ community to purchase beautiful plants and flowers at a significant discount as the result of Lowe’s in-kind support and the Neighborhood Improvement Development Corporation’s (NIDC’s) matching funds. Bloom and Groom is held at the Community Garden northwest corner of 49th and Lloyd.

January, usually on a Saturday
Sponsored by the Urban Ecology Center (UEC) at Washington Park. Great day of sledding, skating, igloo building and many fun events for kids. The UEC offers gardening, recreation and environmental programs for kids and adults all year long. Stop by to pick up a schedule. Better yet, join the UEC as a member.
It takes many volunteers to ensure the success of these events. Please consider getting involved in your community. Just contact the person in charge of the events you’re able to help with.
