Lowes Agrees To Phase Out Bee-Toxic Neonicotinoids
The Washington Heights Green Committee was one of the many voices encouraging Lowe’s to investigate and stop selling products containing neonicotinoids. Neonicotinoids are a class of pesticide that have been linked world wide to the death of bees. Lowe’s is a major sponsor of the Milwaukee “Bloom and Groom” program that provides low cost plants to Milwaukee residents. “Bloom and Groom” is scheduled for May 30th in the Heights where plants will be distributed at the Community Garden (49th and Lloyd).
The national campaign against neonicotinoids was spearheaded by Friends Of The Earth US and supported by many organizations including the Center For Food Safety which posted a press release on its website on April 9, 2015 that praised Lowe’s plans to reduce/eliminate neonicotinoid products.
