New And Improved Washington Park Wednesdays

by Jane Konkel

The Washington Park Band shell is an unrivaled venue for music in a community park and Milwaukee County continues to support neighborhood efforts to promote and beautify Washington Park. The Washington Park Neighbors (WPN) has undertaken a creative fundraising initiative to expand momentum of the summer concert series.

Starting this July 5th, Washington Park Wednesdays welcomes new bands, an extensive list of food vendors, and new activities for kids and families to enjoy in the park. Theme nights, sponsored by local businesses, will draw sellers looking to share new dining options, local beer offerings and new summer programs.

WPN’s partnership with the Urban Ecology Center, Artists Working in Education, the Near West Side Partnership and Outpost will bring bike friendly nights, roller skating, beer tastings, and Farm to Park night when Urban agriculture events, farm stands, and Community Pie takeover the park.

Roll With It! Is the theme for opening night, July 5th. The Brewcity Bruisers will host a picnic and a skate rental van will loan out skates for kids. Happy hour begins at 5pm, so arrive early for beer specials. No worries if you can’t join us for happy hour, beer will be sold each Wednesday throughout the evening.

Washington Heights’ neighbor, Kevin Driscoll will lead the KIDical Mass Bikers to the park on August 2nd for Ride On! Bike tune-ups for children’s bikes and give-aways galore! On July 26th, DJ Bizzon and Cigarette Break are musical guests who’ll leave you waxing nostalgic during Old School Milwaukee night. I look forward to seeing you at Washington Park Wednesdays!
